Race for Haiti
Race for Haiti Blog
It's been 3 months since the devastating earthquake hit Haiti. Re-entry was hard, but Dr. Capin and I have recovered completely and are back in our "groove" at work and life as we knew it before our trip to Haiti. I view life through a very different lens now, taking less for granted, feeling thankful for all that I have and knowing I must do more for those less fortunate.
I recently had an opportunity to continue helping the Haitians through Lambi Fund, a grassroots organization founded in 1994 dedicated to supporting economic justice, democracy and alternative sustainable development in Haiti. The Denver Chapter organized the Race to Rescue Haiti, an exercise event at Matrix Gym in downtown Denver that raised money through individual and corporate sponsorship. Dermatology Associates of Colorado and Cara Mia Medical Day Spa proudly raised over $22,000 for the week long event that will go directly to help the immediate needs of the people of Haiti.

A lambi is a conch shell, a symbol of organizing used for generations in Haiti to call people together. To discuss. To organize. To work. I witnessed first hand their amazing, unwavering determination to survive. As I cycled for hours in their honor, I imagined the sounds of the lambi reverberating through the country of Haiti as they struggle to rebuild a life better and more abundant than life before the earthquake.
